Earlier this week,
, joined me for a conversation on Substack live.UPDATE:
I’ve started sharing these conversations on our YouTube Channel as well, just in case it’s easier for you to watch the full video over on that platform. Soon, I will also be sharing these on Spotify as well.
In this conversation we covered:
00:00 Intro
2:32 - Texas Democrat Al Green Declares He Will Impeach Donald Trump
Natalie and I breakdown the details of his statement & debate the most important question surrounding this move — Does it matter or not?
13:04 - Trump Shares AI Picture Of Himself As Pope
Natalie and I discuss the backlash the President received from this, as well as, what I believe is the President trying to create a distraction from his falling popularity around the country (and the world).
22:07 - Bernie Sanders Leads Effort To Block Bill That Says - Criticism Of Israel = “Antisemitism”
For those who may have missed my earlier post about this, I went into this subject already today ⬇️
Bernie Sanders Leads Effort To BLOCK Bill That Said - Criticism Of Israel = "Antisemitism"
I haven’t spent enough time discussing my feelings on Israel in this newsletter. Truth be told, seeing Donald Trump win the 2024 Election left me with a hopeless feeling for the people in Palestine. With his victory, I knew advocacy efforts would all but be in vein going forward.
In the video, I expressed why I thought it was dangerous territory for this bill to ever see the light of day. It cannot be understated just how far reaching a law like this could be.
35:37 - Texas Criminalizes Political Memes
The bill would require the disclosure by officeholders, candidates or political committees who used altered media in ads and spend more than $100 for political advertising. It would task the Texas Ethics Commision with determining what the disclosure would look like, including font, size and color. Violators would be charged with a Class A misdemeanor.
The bill faced fierce opposition from hardline conservatives who say it is policing speech and could allow the state to jail people over silly political memes. Source - The Texas Tribune
What ramifications could a law like this have & how it speaks to a larger movement by the Republican Party, is what we discussed for this particular topic.
42:32 - Meta AI Chat Bots Are…Very Concerning
This topic definitely caught me off-guard (can always rely on Natalie to find stories like this one). The discussion centers around Meta’s AI impersonating celebrities and having conversations with children, that some times leads to conversations that are sexual in nature. I made it very clear how disturbed I was by this news & how I think Meta needs to address this problem.
In Closing
I’ve been really enjoying these conversations with Natalie & I’m very pleased that she’s been willing to make these a weekly event. Natalie and I will be back on Substack live this Friday around 5:00 PM EST
