It’s going to take some time to find out how exactly I want to use Substack, but I’m sure it’ll make sense over time
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who’s made their way over here to Substack from Instagram. As I mentioned before, I’m really trying to find a new way to connect with everyone that doesn’t involve having to deal with Instagram’s algorithms all the time.
Trying to navigate that app has been incredibly frustrating over the last several months. I mean, truthfully from the beginning. It’s always a combination of trying to figure out what time of day to post, what type of post (reel, image, carousel), certain keywords you’re supposed to put down, it’s just a nightmare altogether.
After gaining 5000 new followers over the summer, my posts are actually being seen by even less people than they were before the recent increase in followers. After coming across that information, it made it really clear for me that it was time to try to find a way to connect with people outside of Instagram, and move away from the hellscape that is navigating the algorithm.
So lastly, I just want to say thank you again to everyone who has come over here to support what we’re doing. Whether you’re a regular member, or if you were gracious enough to honor me with a paid subscription, thank you for supporting this work.
So let’s move onto YouTube now. For those who are not aware or who haven’t been following me for that long, Independent Thought began as a podcast, and I was using my Instagram account as a way to promote that podcast.
It is always been my intention for the podcast/news show to be the primary focus of the political work that I do. The Instagram account, where most of you have found me on social media, was more or less a byproduct of trying to find the best way to promote that podcast
Unfortunately, due to some health issues that I’ve been dealing with over the course of this year, I had to put that podcast on the back burner for 2024. Thankfully, my life has stabilized enough to where I can go back to doing work again, and I’m really excited for this next chapter.
For those who were with me in 2023, you’ll know that I was a part of another YouTube show called “The Left Wing”. I ended up leaving that show at the end of November 2023 and now I’m trying to re-create a similar format on my YouTube channel.
So please bear with me in the beginning as this is very much an unfinished product. I plan on changing quite a bit with the YouTube channel over the course of the next few months. In regards to the presentation, news that we’re going to cover, how frequently will be releasing, how frequently will be having guests on, it’s definitely a work in progress.
In the first video, we discussed a story about the Maryland Supreme Court finding it “unconstitutional” to give parents a one time $1000 check for having a new child. We detail exactly what happens in the story and why I have such an issue with the ruling that came down. As well as, my thoughts on how direct cash payments can help society at large, and why we should be investing in them.
In the second video, we discuss a member of the Chinese government being caught working in the governor of New York’s office. The reason why I felt the need to cover this story, was not the usual thing that you would hear from corporate media that’s rooted in anti-China rhetoric. Rather, the idea that there is an incredible level of influence from foreign governments that has found its way into every corner of American government, and why we need to be aware of that… and of course I’m referring to AIPAC
Tonight’s Debate
Truthfully, I’m gonna keep this one a little brief. Since the end of the DNC, and seeing the Democratic Party’s reaction to Palestinians, who tried to speak at the convention, and were denied. Then thinking about the speech that Kamala Harris gave, its all left me feeling a little hollowed out regarding this election.
Without rehashing all of the reasons why the Democratic Party is the lesser of two evils. I just want to say I’m a little burnt out dealing with the entrapment that is this political system that we all have to live in.
As someone who covers the news, I know that I can’t truly escape it and that’s okay, it kind of comes with a territory. I do wanna try to focus more on where we go from here, and how best to navigate the “here” while we’re trying to get the “there”.
So simply when it comes to this debate, I don’t really know how much of a difference it’s going to make for me personally.
I know that it will have an impact on the election. I know that it will have an impact on early voting. I know for sure I absolute do not want Donald Trump back in the White House.
I also know that I no longer have any true enthusiasm when it comes to this election. Kamala Harris has positioned herself as nothing more than a continuation of the Biden administration. An administration that I’ve never been a fan of
I’ll be watching tonight and I’ll be giving some thoughts on a video in the future, and probably on my stories on Instagram.
However, there is nothing about the outcome from tonight, that’s probably gonna change how I feel about Kamala Harris or my enthusiasm going into the election.
Not because she doesn’t have the ability to change my mind, but because I think she’s made it very clear that she’s more interested in moving to the right, than she is moving to the left.
