California Democratic Representative Ro Khanna, called out his own party earlier today on their lack of an agenda to help the working class of this country.
As I’ve said before, defeating a fascist MAGA regime is only step 1. We also have to address problematic Democrats within the party, that block progress on behalf of corporate donors.
We deserve a better opposition party & it feels like Representative Khanna is understanding where the base is to some degree. If you’re just reading this email & don’t have the app, here’s what he said in the video above:
“I’m tired of a Democratic Party, you know, every time we lose, they have some kind of autopsy as if it’s a messaging issue.
As if we need just better words. As if we need more charisma.
Well, courage is the new charisma.
What we need is actual policies that are going to stand with the working class.
That means taxing billionaires.
It means being for Medicare for all.
It means $10 a day childcare.
It means being for a living wage.
It means opposing overseas wars.
It means opposing a bloated defense budget.
If we have the conviction of standing for these policies, people will respond to it.
Instead, we don’t want to offend the corporate interests, the money.
So we think if we just say it in a slightly more clever way, in a more charismatic way, somehow we’re going to succeed.
Voters are smarter than that.
And certainly the working class voters are smarter than that.”
It’s not enough just to oppose the Republicans, we also need a future to repair the damage done, and the damage that existed before. We cannot accept anything less, & I will be fighting to remind everyone of that, as we progress over the next few years.
