Democratic Party Considers Spending $20 Million Ad Sweep Targeting Young Men
By: Desmond Price
Is this a good use of money? That’s the question I pose as we go into this story…
The Democratic Party has committed $20 million to a new initiative called Speaking with American Men (SAM), designed to reengage working-class American men following setbacks in the 2024 election.
The project responds to a growing voter shift, particularly among younger male voters who supported President Donald Trump’s reelection. SAM will examine the habits, interests, and online activity of these men, placing ads in platforms like video games where they are active.
Strategist Anat Shenker-Osorio said voters want leaders “to actually fight for them or at least try.” Democratic pollster Zac McCrary added that the party has “hurt our own credibility” by appearing disconnected on cultural issues. SAM’s approach is meant to gather insight and adjust messaging to better reflect the lives of disengaged male voters.
The campaign reflects broader concerns within the party about losing long-term support from this demographic. With the 2026 midterms approaching, Democrats view SAM as a tool to rebuild trust and close the cultural gap that has widened in recent years.Source - Ground News (Side note - I’ve been using Ground News for YEARS on Instagram. I definitely recommend for those who spend a lot of time on that app)
Should the Democrats spend $20 million dollars trying to win back the young male vote? Please share your thoughts below?
This is a bit nuanced for me, because on one hand I can see the value in a move like this, but at the same time, it also feels like a waste of resources.
On one hand - Yes, when you see yourself struggling within a demographic group, it should be a wake up call to reflect on what is going wrong.
On the other hand - young men have the lowest voter turnout margins of any voting group. I don’t know that trying to win back these voters from the republicans, is as important as winning back voters that have become disaffected over time.
Personally, I would rather see a true opposition party, focus on actually delivering REAL results to the working class.
A party that promised to:
Pursue universal healthcare
Raise the minimum wage
Adopt of a Green New Deal
Increase protections for Unions/enact Pro-Act
Stop sending weapons to Israel
Refused to abandon Black people, Trans People & Migrants, at the first sign of Republican calling them “woke”
Rewrite the tax code to properly tax the billionaires
Let’s be fair, I could honestly have that list include over 100 things (maybe that will be a future post).
A party that focused on the issues it wanted to deliver to everyone, would win back more voters, than you would pick up making weird platitudes to a particular demographic group.
That’s my take on the matter anyway…
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Until next time,
Desmond
I agree they should be part of the mix but it feels like pandering. I like your idea of a truly progressive agenda for everyone. We need to fix what’s wrong, not create another “division”.
If the Democratic Party addressed real issues, as you listed, they might actually see young men starting to listen. I don’t believe that establishment democrats who hold the real power in the party wanna change. They don’t think they’re the problem. They don’t support the issues you’ve listed because it doesn’t line up with their real agenda. They think they just need to message differently. This strategy is a waste of time and money.
